Wave Curtains: Getting the Fold Right on Large Windows

Wave Curtains: Getting the Fold Right on Large Windows

The fold is the whole point

Wave curtains are defined by their continuous, soft S-shaped fold running evenly from top to bottom — no gaps between pleats, no bunching, just one smooth wave across the full width. It's a distinctly modern look that's become the default choice for large glazed openings in newer developments.

Why you can't get this look with a standard rod

The wave fold isn't created by the fabric or a clever heading tape alone — it needs a dedicated wave track with gliders spaced at a specific, consistent interval. Hang the same fabric on a standard rod or a pencil-pleat tape and the fold collapses into an ordinary gather. The track and the heading tape are engineered together specifically for this effect.

Best suited to width, not just style

Because the wave fold reads best across a continuous run, it particularly suits wide sliding doors and floor-to-ceiling glass, where the curtain stacks cleanly to one side when open rather than bunching awkwardly. Narrower single windows can still use a wave heading, but the visual effect is more pronounced the wider the track.

What determines fabric choice

Wave curtains generally work best in mid-weight fabrics with a good drape — too stiff and the fold won't relax into its curve; too light and it can look flat. We can guide fabric selection with this in mind during your consultation.

Installation is part of the specification

Because the track and glider spacing are what make the wave fold work, professional measurement and installation matter more here than with a standard rod — we handle both the track supply and fitting as part of the order, typically within 24–48 hours of confirmation.
