Curtain Tracks: Ceiling, Wall-Mounted or Motorised — How to Choose
Three real decisions, not one
Choosing a curtain track comes down to three practical questions: how wide is the span, how heavy will the finished curtain be, and how do you want to operate it — by hand, by cord, or motorised? Getting any one of these wrong is the most common reason a track underperforms or needs replacing early.
Ceiling-mounted vs wall-mounted
A ceiling-mounted track suits a window with little or no wall space above it, or a room where you want to maximise perceived ceiling height by running the track flush to the ceiling rather than lower down on the wall. Wall-mounted tracks are more flexible for standard window setups and are usually simpler to install and adjust.
When motorisation is worth it
Motorised tracks add real convenience on very wide spans, hard-to-reach windows, or curtains heavy enough that pulling them by hand puts ongoing strain on the heading tape. For a standard window with an easily reachable pull cord, motorisation is more of a comfort upgrade than a necessity.
Matching the track to the fabric
Heavier fabrics and linings need a heavier-duty track and more closely spaced gliders than a light sheer — this is one of the main reasons a generic, unrated track sags in the middle over time on a wide or heavy curtain.
Installation is part of the job
Even the correct track will underperform if it isn't anchored into solid structure — stud, concrete, or a proper wall plug rather than drywall alone — particularly for ceiling mounts carrying a heavy curtain's full weight. We size, supply and install the track as part of your order, typically within 24–48 hours of confirmation.
